The Women of Jazz
For the Love of Jazz is joining forces with CAAW to bring to Reno four incredibly talented jazz musicians to help celebrate the tradition of women in jazz music.
The artistic lineup will be Mimi Fox on guitar, Cindy Browne on bass, Susan Pascal on vibes, and Jason Lewis on drums. You can purchase tickets for this event from this Web page.
Mimi Fox
Internationally renowned guitarist/composer/recording artist Mimi Fox has been named a winner in 6 consecutive Downbeat Magazine international critic's polls and has been recognized by writers and colleagues alike as one of the most eloquent jazz guitarists on today's scene. In one of many feature stories, Guitar Player Magazine hailed Mimi as "a prodigious talent who has not only mastered the traditional forms but has managed to reinvigorate them."
Cindy Browne
Cindy has been an active free-lance performer and recording artist in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1979. Her jazz credits include performances from Jordan to Japan. In recent years she’s also toured and recorded with the Quirks and with Kaila Flexer’s Next Village. Cindy holds a Masters in classical performance from Washington State University where she was director of the jazz workshop and a jazz history lecturer.
Susan Pascal
Seattle jazz vibraphonist Susan Pascal has taken her music through four tours of Singapore and concerts, workshops and clinics across the United States. Her Pacific Northwest appearances include the Earshot Jazz Festival and Centrum Jazz Port Townsend, and as a special guest artist with the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, the Seattle Baroque Orchestra, and Seattle’s Gypsy jazz group, Pearl Django.
Jason Lewis
Jason Lewis graduated from the classical percussion program at San Jose State University, under the direction of Tony Cirone of the San Francisco Symphony, with a B.A. in music. Mr.Lewis has taught privately in the bay area, coached at the Stanford Jazz Workshop, and has performed clinics at schools throughout the San Jose area.
