The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra (RYJO), founded in 2006, is a premier big‑band program that brings together the top middle‑ and high‑school jazz musicians from the Reno–Sparks–Carson–Tahoe region, offering advanced performance opportunities, professional‑level ensemble training, and a deep immersion in the art and tradition of jazz; through concerts, community events, collaborations, and its signature programs such as formal auditions and the RYJO Challenge, the orchestra cultivates young talent, builds musical confidence, and helps emerging players grow into the next generation of Northern Nevada’s jazz artists.
